| The time had finally come...I'd waited for so long, that it just seemed unreal when yesterday happened to be April 14th!~!~!~! The day my Jersey Boys tickets was for!! (It was also Picnic Day.) Originally I was going to go up to Picnic Day to see my Kung Fu Group perform in the rain, for old time sakes. I haven't been involved in kung fu for such a long time, but I try to surround myself with it whenever I can. It still motivates me! But we were also having a reunion that day for Japan Summer '06 study-abroad students, which meant a couple of people I knew would be congregating to reminisce about the good old times we had overseas. So that was really fun, a two-hr car-ride with three other Japan friends, laughing about the weird things we encountered and complaints about meager portions and irregularity (ies).
But since it was raining up there, we couldn't stay at the reunion as long as we might have. Because we had to get back down to SF for the 8:00 show! So we left at 4:30, and got home at about 7:00. It was definitely a fight to get back, there were so many scaredy cat slow cars, and I drank so much green tea. It was a difficult trip indeed. But fun all around. I like car rides! Anyway, we get back, race over to SF, and mosey on along towards the theatre.
But, Egads! The theatre has a bar! I contemplated buying myself a drink (by this time, I was thirsty again) to go along with the show, but NO! I knew that I had to watch the show completely sober to absorb every ounce of juicy Jersey goodness!! Unfortunately, others did not feel that way. The tall people sitting in front of us (we were in the 2nd row of the balcony), the people sitting to my left, and the people behind me were all freakin wasted! One guy was passed out, snorting, sneezing and kicking the guy in front of him (luckily for him, he was behind the man sitting next to me...) The others had so much alcohol in their breath that if the show weren't so darned good, the alcohol smell would have bothered me to the point of madness!!! But anyway, the show was SPECTACULAR!!!, so musical and so dramatic. The actors were mesmerizing, I loved the music, and the choreography of the stage! That one little confined area became so many different settings, it was amazing. I loved it, I might even go to watch it AGAIN!

| Sometimes I think I take comfort in things others would find "odd", "strange" or "disturbing" and then I get labeled as a negative, bitter old man.. But my logic is that it's like saying "Well it definitely could've been worse..." or somewhere along those lines. But I can't explain..I lost my train of thought on that one. Maybe someone can finish that up for me hahaha
What's really on my mind is that today I went to this hair salon that supposedly got good reviews. And maybe it did, but that's because maybe the person reviewing didn't get the person I got. I got a woman who just did NOT agree with my sense of style, so in her ultimate power decided that she would make me look "good" the way she thoguht I should. So anyhow, I told her I wanted to bleach my hair in huge chunks. I basically wanted my hair to be really blonde with hints of my old black hair. She said that it'd be hard to do that since the color from my previous hair dye would be hard to lift. So she wasn't going to make highlights as chunky as I had wanted. That's ok, I can agree with that, but I still wanted it more blonde than not. Anyway, she takes it upon herself to make skinny blonde/platinum streaks that don't even look like streaks!!!!!!!!!!! It looks like I was stressed for a whole year and all my hair turned grey on top!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so distressed!!!!!!!!!! I was so caffeinated with all the coffee they gave me, my stress levels went thru the roof and I couldn't even talk, I was just huffing and puffing and screaming under my breath. My hair experiences are getting worse and worse!!!!!!! I feel like I"m going to have to start interviewing hairdressers to see if our personalities will match, and if we'll be able to work together on my hair. Because I had a certain idea of what I wanted, and she did NOT follow it, she just kept doing what she knew how to do, and that was basically the exact same thing she'd been doing for everyone else in rapid succession for the last week. Does it have to be so hard to trust people on your hair??!! Where is the talent these days, where is the creative can-do attitude?
Okay, enough ranting about my hair. I think Angela's sick of me talking about it hahahahahahahahahh

| On Saturday I went to see the California Martial Arts Tournament, which is mostly just a bit of traditional kung fu, a lot of wushu and a LOT of kids. Honestly I wasn't as impressed this year with what was going on. In previous tournaments, I would go to critique like hell, analyze who's gotten better, who's gotten worse and who was up and coming. This year I couldn't really get myself to sit and pay attention to the forms people were practicing. I think the problem is that the wushu'ers will mostly compete in one form, which means all the competitors will compete with the same form. You see it done once, you see it done twice...etc. After a while, it really doesn't matter how well someone did--it's still the same one you've seen over and over.
So instead of actually watching how people were doing, I got to looking at the whole tournament as a giant fashion runway show. And in between games of Deuces and Texas Hold 'Em, I took note of the fashion trends in full force in the wushu world...
1. Matching uniforms---to show team spirit!

Yellow silks were big in the stadium this year...

Now notice the taller girl in the yellow silks below-- A lot of girls had this uniform this year...the bell-flower pleated sleeves and shiny silk vest. Not my favorite, but definitely a look being sported.
The girl to the right in green--wearing an UNmatching sash, how rebellious.
The guy the right, with his interesting one-sleeved embellished white silks...
The guy to the far right, a simple blue trimmed silver silk with embellished collar...very interesting...

3. I spy....a couple of kung fu monks!

The whole sleeves-under-silks look took off this year. Everyone was doing it...

The best hair in the tournament!!!

Unexpectedly colored contrasting trims look really good!

I spy someone climbing the bleachers!!!

Hands-down favorite silk uniform in the entire competition: Well-fitted pieced top w/ matching striped silk bottoms minus the sash: a very clean and modern look indeed!

I saw this on the way from the competition.

TIL next TIME!!

| I haven't had much to blog about. But lately I've been taking my camera everywhere with me. So just wanted to share with you guys some pictures I've taken.
I went to the Berkeley CMAT yesterday. Not as exciting as the ones before...possibly because I got a lousy seat, and there wasn't anything particularly new today.
I caught a picture of my doggies one frosty morning.
Here are some dogs that are big enough to be polar bears!!! They hang around outside Safeway all the time.

Well that's all I have for now. I'll have a lot more coming up! | | |
